Showmanship was on display Thursday outside Bethel Public Library, as P.T. Barnum fans dressed up to celebrate the entertainment impresario's 202nd birthday.

Barnum was born on Greenwood Avenue in Bethel on July 5, 1810 -- he died in 1891 -- and is memorialized by a statue outside the library.

This week's celebration drew Barnum fans who donned crazy, circus-worthy hats, for which prizes were awarded, and sang "Happy Birthday" to the man who revolutionized popular American entertainment.
