I would like to comment on the Brookfield salon health-inspection article in the May 23 edition of The News-Times.
It was well written, but missed the point. Associating tattoo parlors and restaurants, etc., is like comparing apples and oranges.
Cosmetology and barbering cost about $15,000 to $20,000, and 1,500 or more hours for schooling, and the students are well-trained when they graduate.
It is the bureaucracy most of us are against. I pay a license fee, property taxes and business tax, and I don't believe a restaurant pays for an inspection tax.
My question to Mr. Davidson is, Why are doctors and vets, etc., exempt?
Don't give me the answer that they are under the health department or the state of Connecticut -- so are we.
The difference is, we do not have a lobby anymore. I would like to restore our cosmetology and barber commission back in Hartford and stop all this nonsense.
