For the past five years, LuvJonz Entertainment, LLC has given artists, poets, designers and musicians "a platform for self-expression" through a variety of events in the tri-state area.
This weekend, the company will keep that mission moving when it hosts its Summer Outdoor Fashion Show and Spoken Word Corner at the third annual Bridgeport Arts Fest.
"I think it's amazing," Martine Senecal, publicist for LuvJonz Entertainment, said of the event. "It's a great way to showcase all different kinds of art for all different types of people with all different faces."
LuvJonz Entertainment is one of more than 100 vendors who will be on hand at Bridgeport Arts Fest, a daylong celebration of local and original art, artists, crafters, performers and community organizations that will take place at McLevy Green on Saturday, July 7.
Benjamin Henson, a Bridgeport City Planner and organizer of the event, said the city hopes to "show off the creativity of all the artists we have here," especially those from city entities such as the Read's Arts Space, Nest Arts Factory, City Lights Gallery and 305K Gallery.
"At the same time, we want to bring people back to downtown," he said.
During the afternoon event, artists and crafters will sell their art and provide demonstrations in everything from bookbinding to glassblowing.
Local and regional musicians, including Back from Earth, M.T. Bearington, Suzanne Vick and Ports of Spain, will play on two stages.
Dancers and hoola-hoopers will roam the festival grounds as they perform a variety of original routines.
LuvJonz Entertainment's Summer Outdoor Fashion Show will feature designers with an artist's vibe and its Spoken Word Corner will showcase writers from Bridgeport's rising poetry scene.
"This is our way of bringing them out and getting them exposure so people can hear their words," Senecal, who will also perform in the Spoken Word Corner, said. "That's what we represent."
Kelly Poole, a crafter who has participated in the Bridgeport Arts Fest every year since it began, looks forward to joining the dozens of other artists on McLevy Green. She is excited to be a part of Bridgeport's "growing arts community" -- a group that will be out in full force at the festival.
"It's so exciting to see artists working together and getting things done," Poole, the owner of Beach Bum Sea Glass Jewelry in Stratford, said. "There's so many talented people here."
