MONTPELIER, Vt. -- The Danbury Westerners couldn't take advantage of a solid effort from starting pitcher Kevin Link as they suffered a 3-2 NECBL loss to the Vermont Mountaineers Saturday night.
The Mountaineers scored a run off reliever Jimmy Reed in the eighth inning after the Westerners tied the game 2-2 in the top of the inning.
Link pitched seven effective innings with five strikeouts and one walk.
Danbury managed only four hits off four Vermont pitchers. Chad Morgan and Chase Butler had RBIs for the Westerners.
Vermont reliever Troy Scribner, a Shepaug High graduate, ptiched two scoreless innings of relief with two striekouts.
Danbury returns to action tonight when it plays host to Keene at 6:30.
