The Stray Kats Theatre Company is doing a staged reading Saturday, Feb. 25, in Newtown of Edward Albee's Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Seascape" -- about a recently retired couple pondering what to do with the rest of their lives.
The production will be at Edmond Town Hall's Alexandria Room.
The "Seascape" cast includes Weston resident Barbara Rhoades, a veteran of stage, screen and TV.
Rhoades started out as a dancer in "Funny Girl" on Broadway and on TV shows such as "The Sammy Davis Show." Universal Pictures brought her out to Los Angeles to star in "Don't Just Stand There" with Robert Wagner and Mary Tyler Moore. She also starred opposite Don Knotts in "Shakiest Gun in the West."
"Ironside" and "Law and Order" are among the dozens of TV shows in which Rhoades has appeared. Others include "It Takes a Thief," "Mannix," "Columbo," "Kojak," "The Six Million Dollar Man" and "Murder She Wrote."
Also a comedian, Rhoades has appeared on "Love, American Style," "Maude" and "The Odd Couple." She played private detective Maggie Chandler on "Soap."
More recently, she appeared in the off-Broadway production of "Love, Loss and What I Wore," and was the "mother from hell," Irene Manning, on ABC's "One Life to Live."
The cast also includes Tom Zingarelli of New Haven, Sean Hannon of Weston and Wynter Kullman of Westport.
Stray Kats is a nonprofit group that offers staged readings of contemporary classics and new works with professional casts.
Each evening includes a talk-back with the company, plus coffee and dessert by Andrea's Pastry Shop. The bakery, at 5 Queen St., Newtown, specializes in Italian pastries, cakes, breads and cookies.
