One of the reasons GM went bankrupt was its exorbitant legacy costs. Fast-forward -- one of the reasons municipalities are doing the same is exorbitant pension legacy costs.

It's simply unsustainable.

I for one was proud to see Mayor Boughton make a stand for the people when he said no to the $2.1 million federal grant to hire 14 new firefighters, not because of spite, as some claim, but because the union refused to adjust their pensions like the private sector.

We're very fortunate to have this mayor representing the interests of the non-public working folks. Keep up the great job, mayor.
