PLAINVILLE, Mass. (AP) — The best-selling author of the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" children's books thinks he's the man to determine the future of a ramshackle building in downtown Plainville that some people say is a landmark and some say is an eyesore.
Plainville resident Jeff Kinney tells The Sun Chronicle (http://bit.ly/w5kuRA) that he and he and his wife paid $300,000 for the Falk's Market building. He says an engineer will have to look at the structure before determining whether it can be salvaged, or needs to be razed.
Formerly the Plainville Mercantile Building, it has been home to a pharmacy, general store, hot dog stand, barber shop and post office.
The former owner says it was built in 1805, but the chairwoman of the historic commission says it was built around 1860.
