BREWSTER, N.Y. -- A man wielding a knife robbed a North Main Street convenience store Tuesday evening and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, Sheriff Donald Smith said Wednesday.

Smith said the robber entered the store about 8 p.m. and demanded money from the clerk before fleeing on foot.

The clerk was not hurt, he said.

The suspect was described by police as a 25- to 30-year-old white or light-skinned Hispanic male, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, wearing a black watch cap, a black hooded sweatshirt bearing the word "Rocawear," gray sweatpants with two white stripes on each leg, and tan shoes.

A search by deputies, a police dog and state troopers came up empty.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-225-8060.
