DANBURY -- Police arrested a 19-year-old local man after a routine traffic stop turned up a fully loaded handgun on the front passenger's seat, officials said.
Police records show that Damian Winters, of Concord Street, was charged with failure to obey a traffic signal, reckless driving and failure to use his turn signal, in addition to the weapons possession charge.
Winters was pulled over about 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Federal Road and White Street, according to a police spokesman. An officer stopped after Winters allegedly ran a red light.
A search of the vehicle produced a silver "Jimenez Arms" 9-milimeter semi-automatic handgun with a fully loaded clip, the police spokesman said. A loaded magazine lay next to it, police said.
Winters, police said, did not have a permit to carry a gun.
He was released after posting $10,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned July 27 in state Superior Court in Danbury.
