The Western Connecticut State University football team was picked to finish last in the New Jersey Athletic Conference in a preseason poll of the league's nine head coaches. SUNY Cortland was picked to win the NJAC.

New Western head coach Joe Loth takes over a team that has posted back-to-back winless seasons and hasn't won a game since Nov. 7, 2009 when it beat The College of New Jersey 37-34.

Western opens its season on Sept. 1 at Widener in Chester, Pa. The Colonials then open their NJAC slate on Sept. 15 at Cortland. Their first home game is Sept. 22 against Rowan.
